Today's Webtip: Offener Bücherschrank

think of it as a p2p filesharing node for your analog data.

I'm in love.

This is one of those nifty projects that just makes me want to jump up and down screaming "goodie goodie goodie goodie".

Which project? Offener Bücherschrank.

It combines so many really good things. A love of the physical commons, the cultural commons, free libraries, and cool projects makes this just too good. A publicly accessible book shelf where you can take and leave books to be shared with others.

This one is in Vienna, so unlike Bookcrossing, you need to actually have physical access to one specific place. But, also unlike Bookcrossing, it means you will always know just where to go to look for a book.

The site explains a bit about how the project came to be, and also lists resources so that anyone who might want to have something similar in their neighborhood can make it happen.

Win, win, win.
