The smartphone revolution has been massive. Aside from creating a few booming new industries, making us all easier to track, and putting computers in a lot of peoples pockets, it has also hitsome hardware pretty hard.
It's probably pretty obvious that point and shot cameras, mp3 players and gps devices have faced a setback, but there are some other devices that were wiped out before they got started. Can you imagine a stand-alone music identification device? Neither could I, until I read about it in an engadget article.
When the smartphone giveth is the first part ofna series of articles covering some of the lesser known devices that will never make an impact.
