Today's Webtip: Frist post!

watch the Curiosity crew go nuts as the first thumbnail trickles in.

I overslept. I really wanted to watch the landing today, but just couldn't drag myself out of bed. Or into consciousness.

So I had some catch up to do this morning. That started with a post at www.openculture.com and this video of the entry and landing process

My favorite point was the reaction as the first 64x64 px thumnail trickled in. It was like being back on dialup and opening my first webpage. Only better, because, you know, Mars.

After grooving to the good vibes in the control room it was off to El Reg for some snark and pictures of Wil Wheaton.

Then curiosity got the best of me, and I had to find out how they were running the communication between MArs and earth. Almost as easily said as done, with some nifty animations to boot: www.unexplained-mysteries.com (although it should be noted that this is not a mystery and is well explained)

I wrapped up my catchup with a visit to www.extremetech.com I was treated to some lovely artists renditions, concise explanations and a photo of scientists in lab-coats next to rovers.

A lovely way to start te day.

Update: Just discovered that Curiosity is on Twitter

It's absolutley awesome they managed to bring such a heavy rover with this really ridiculous landing maneuver to the ground.
