Lias Saoudi von der Fat White Family im Seriously Talk

Wer bist du? Was machst du? Was isst du? Das große „Seriously“-Frage-und-Antwort-Spiel mit Lias Saoudi von der Fat White Family zum neuen Album „Forgivness Is Yours“.

Die Fat White Family hat sich wieder einmal nicht aufgelöst, ist wieder einmal nicht den Drogentod gestorben und hat wieder einmal doch noch ein Album veröffentlicht. Opfer gab es allerdings auch dieses Mal zu beklagen. So hat Gründungsmitglied Saul Adamczewski die Band im Streit verlassen. Angeblich hat sein Vorhaben, eine Psychedelic-Drone-Oper in das Universum zu entlassen, die Nerven und das Budget der Truppe gesprengt.

Nun hat Sänger Lias Kaci Saoudi die Karrotenhosen an und auf „Forgivness Is Yours“, so der Titel des vierten Fat White Family Albums, den Post-Punk-Sound ein wenig in Richtung New-Wave geföhnt. Der Kapitalismus ist immer noch böse, die Konformität ein Graus und jünger wird man in diesem falschen Leben ja auch nicht gerade. Was bleibt ist, dieser optimierenden Konsummaschine des Schreckens ein oder zwei Schräubchen zu verdrehen. Die Fat White Family bricht Wälder von Lanzen für das Mythische und Unberechenbare in der Kunst, für die Freaks und Unskalierbaren und bleibt dabei selbst etwas berechenbar der alte Provo-Popschule der Siebziger- und Achzigerjahre treu.

So wandern wir im Song „Tomorrow You Become A Man“ mit Lias zurück in die Berge Algeriens, um der unbetäubten Beschneidung seines Bruders beizuwohnen und uns dann in den daraus resultierenden Traumata zu winden. In „John Lennon“ begegnen wir im Ketamin-Rausch Yoko Ono - ein Treffen, das tatsächlich stattgefunden hat. Im Video zu „Bullet of Dignity“ deutet sich über Uniformen, Fleisch und Homoerotik eine Orgie an, die im KitKat Club tabu wäre.

Who are you?

Who am I? I’m like just under 6 foot, but I tell people I’m 6 foot because it’s easier than like, I don’t know what’s the measurement beneath that? What’s before 6 bucks? It’s not ten. It’s what is it, 5,12? Is it 5?

Nobody understands that in Austria, because we have the metric system.

See the metric system! My mom never sat down and told me, this is what constitutes a foot, you know, it’s an odd number. So I just round up to to six.

Where do you live?

For the most part I live in my bedroom, that’s where I spend most of the time.

And you bedroom is located in London. How is the climate change over there?

We stand to benefit from climate change in England. I think we might catch the sweet spot.

How do you contribute to the climate change?

Sometimes I buy adeodorant cans and I just walk around spraying them into the air.

What is the name of your band?

Fat White Family

Why?

Because I’m white seeming.

In the age of Woke Thinking, wouldn’t it better to call yourself Old White Man?

No. I think it’s kind of inadvertently woke, because sometimes people on the conservative side of the spectrum complain about the band name now.

What kind of music do you do?

I don’t do music anymore. I find it traumatic. It’s triggering for me.

Is it music about flesh and bones?

If there has to be music, then I guess it has to be about flesh and bones, but maybe more saliva. When you get a sort of smell of your own saliva, when you coat something in your own saliva, then you can smell your flesh and bones in some kind of abstract way.

What I mean: is it sexy music?

If it’s not sexy, is it music?

Why so many uniforms in your music videos?

Because we wanted to be firemen, but we didn’t cut the grade.

The title of your new record?

„Forgiveness Is Yours“.

What is the message?

That you should be kinder to your mother.

You have a song on the album titled „John Lennon“. He is one of the gods of UK rock music. Do you believe in him?

Well, he’s not around anymore. I mean, I don’t know. Back in the day I think I might have judged him harshly because the Beatles were so popular. I think when things are too popular sometimes I have a tendency to disregard them out of a kind of protective ego thing. So I don’t know.

Liam Gallagher is a fan of your music. He invited you to one of his big concerts, he is also a god of UK pop.

I think that was probably our finest hour and I’ve never had so much abuse and beer hurled at me in my whole life.

Pretty much all of them.
